The Meghalaya Climate Change Centre (MCCC) was established under National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) in October, 2015. NMSHE is one of eight National Missions under National Action Plan on Climate Change.
The State has a nodal entity to address the climate change issue in a holistic manner. The institutional set up includes the Meghalaya State Council on Climate Change & Sustainable Development (MSCCC & SD).
The State has constituted the Meghalaya State Council on Climate Change and Sustainable Development (MSCCC&SD) which is currently chaired by Shri Conrad K Sangma. MSCCC&SD is the apex body to address the climate change issues in a holistic manner. The Meghalaya Climate Change Centre coordinates across departments on cross cutting issues. It also interprets the various National Missions’ objectives and strategies in the context of the State. MCCC is expected to forge partnerships with private sectors, academic institutions and civil societies to facilitate the implementation of various proposed actions in the State.
